Owen Valley’s First Engine was a 1949 Mack Pumper that
was purchased in 1971. A 2 ˝ ton Army
tanker was loaned to the dept by the Indiana
Department of Natural Resources also in the same year. In 1973 the DNR
loaned the first brush truck to OVFD, a Dodge 4x4 crew cab. In the mid
70’s Owen Valley Fire Department constructed their first Fire Station located
on Jefferson Street . This was a concrete block
building with 3 truck bays and a small office/kitchen/meeting room
combination. Shortly afterwards a second tanker on a Ford Chassis was added
increasing the dept’s firefighting capacity. The department purchased its first new
engine in 1979. The truck was a First Alert II Quick Response Attack Pumper. In the late 1980’s the OV Fire Station was expanded to
add 3 more apparatus bays, allowing room for another new engine delivered in
1990. This truck was built by on a GMC
chassis, and included 1250gpm pump and 1000gal water tank. Charter Members Wendell
