Valley Volunteer Fire Department
Serving Washington Township in Owen County, IN since 1971
The
Owen Valley Fire Department was organized in 1971 and has continued to
grow since its conception.
OVFD provides fire, rescue, first responder, hazmat, and public
awareness/training services to Washington Township in Owen County
Indiana. Currently we maintain 30+ active
volunteer members and a fleet of 12 vehicles that respond annually to
350+ calls for service. Owen Valley Fire Department has a response area
that includes over 100 square miles of light industrial facilities,
residential housing, housing for the elderly, schools, 3 major US
Highways, quarrying operations, several waterways, and McCormick Creek
State Park. OVFD also provides mutual aid to surrounding departments.
Our mission is to protect the lives and maintain the safety of our
personnel and the community we serve by providing adequately trained
personnel, up-to-date and certified equipment, and achieve standards set
by the NFPA. The first original fire engine was a 1949 Mac Pumper that was purchased
in 1971. The first tanker, a 2 ½ ton
army tanker, was loaned to the department by DNR in 1971. In 1973 the DNR
loaned the first brush truck to OVFD, a Dodge 4x4 crew cab. The
department purchased its first new engine in 1979. The truck was a
First Alert II Quick Response Attack Pumper.
